CIOE 2025: HYWICOM Took the Crown in 1.6Tbps Testing

At CIOE 2025 (Shenzhen, China, September 10-12)—the global photonics industry's premier event—1.6Tbps technology was undoubtedly the hottest topic and the center of attention. Industry leaders unveiled their cutting-edge solutions, with HYWICOM showcasing its flagship ‌FRAEO 16T2 multi-port 1.6T network tester‌.


HYWICOM is one of only three companies worldwide that master ‌1.6Tbps 

(224G SerDes) Ethernet protocol testing‌ core technologies. Since successfully developing the 1.6Tbps tester at the end of last year, HYWICOM has conducted the most in-depth and extensive testing with nearly all 1.6Tbps optical module manufacturers, including various DSP chips and silicon photonics solutions. These efforts have helped resolve numerous 1.6Tbps interoperability and performance issues.



At this year's CIOE, global test solution giants publicly unveiled their 1.6T testing solutions for the first time, making the exhibition the proving ground for this new technology. In direct comparison, optical module manufacturers ran live tests on all three vendors' 1.6T testers using identical 1.6T modules.

 

The results of the comparison reaffirmed HYWICOM's technological leadership, demonstrating superior measurement accuracy and protocol compliance that set new industry standards.

The Golden Benchmark for 1.6T Optical Module Performance

HYWICOM’s FRAEO 16T2 network tester demonstrated industry-leading pre-FEC performance under real 8x 200GE Ethernet traffic, with multiple 1.6T optics manufacturers reporting pre-FEC BER measurements reaching e-13, when testing their high-performance 1.6T optical modules. In contrast, the 1.6T test equipment from the other two companies showed significant degradation: Equipment 1 exhibited a two-order-of-magnitude drop to e-11, while Equipment 2 was only at e-7/-8 levels, completely misrepresenting the module's true performance.


This testing precision delivers tangible value for optical module manufacturers: akin to using ultra-precise calibration tools, the FRAEO 16T2 accurately reflects 1.6T optics performance, eliminating misjudgments caused by test equipment’s own issues. This empowers vendors to showcase their 1.6T optics' true excellence to end-users, securing critical 1.6T optics orders.

 

Beyond accuracy, the FRAEO 16T2 demonstrated its reliability during the CIOE’s rigorous live testing. It maintained rock-solid performance in pre-FEC BER, FEC Margin, and channel consistency across multi-vendor modules under continuous high-load operation throughout the CIOE exhibition.

It is particularly noteworthy that at this year's CIOE, ‌HYWICOM‌ collaborated with ‌20+ industry leaders‌ to conduct live joint demonstrations of ‌1.6T/800G optical module testing‌. HYWICOM's testing equipment has now become the ‌de facto industry standard, evidenced by many top global optical module manufacturers who uniformly deployed HYWICOM's test systems for their exhibition booths' live demos.



IPEC (‌International Photonics & Electronics Committee)‌ collaborated with ‌HYWICOM‌, ‌Meituan‌, ‌Huawei‌, ‌Hisense‌, ‌HGTECH‌, ‌H3C‌, ‌Ruijie‌, and ‌YOFC to demonstrate ‌eSR MMF interoperability‌, where HYWICOM's ‌PIANO portable multi-port 800G network tester‌ outperformed other solutions by consolidating the testing workload equivalent to ‌2-4 traditional portable testers in a single platform. The demonstration also validated PIANO's capability to streamline multi-vendor testing with unparalleled efficiency.
